Art - Peter Goldie
29th May - 28 June 2007.
The pictures
The landscapes in this collection were taken over a single autumn day in The Lake District.
The seascapes were taken in the summer on the Pembroke coasts of South Wales.
They are, however, intended to be generic, in the sense that they are meant to capture the essence of these kinds of scenes - very much as a painter might try to do, not absolutely constrained by the way things, precisely, are.
The photographer
Peter Goldie isn't a professional photographer.
After 25 years in the City of London as a banker, he is now an academic and philosopher - The Samuel Hall Chair and Head of Philosophy at The University of Manchester.
He has published a number of books, including The Emotions (OUP 2000), and On Personality (Routledge 2004), and numerous articles in journals.
He has always been an enthusiastic photographer, but frustrated by being unable to spend enough time on it.
