Gee

5th April - 5th May 2007. Commissioned by The State of the Art gallery.

Based:
London, UK, originally from the West Country

Education and qualifications:
Foundation in Graphic Design at London College of Communication, UK.
Currently studying BA (Hons) Illustration at the London College of Communication

Inspiration and influences:
"My subject matter is a reflection of everything that interests me, whether it is a simple aesthetic that I enjoy or a music genre that I listen to. Raving, old school hip hop, classic cars, retro technology, female beauty, graffiti and skateboarding are among the many things that I draw upon in my artwork. Influenced by everything from pop art to psychedelia I have a very diverse style that is ever evolving and improving."

Style:
Gee works primarily with stencilling and screen printing.

"I spray paint on everything from canvas to wood, preferring to work in fairly large proportions. By layering several colours with complex stencils I create stunning profiles which are miles away from the sometimes overused stencil aesthetic. I take the same approach to this work as I do to all my prints. All my work is totally unique; the stencils are all hand drawn, not left up to a computer to create, then hand cut and hand painted. When a painting is complete the stencils are torn up and thrown away so that every piece is completely and utterly one of a kind."

Commissions:
Gee is happy to discuss commissions.

Each month the State of the Art gallery will bring new urban and contemporary art to The Cobden. Find out more about State of the Art.
